COMPETITION CATEGORIES

For the edition of the XXI BAQ 2018, the following participation categories have been established:

A. Architectural design
B. Urban design and landscape architecture
C. Social habitat and development (global contest)
D. Architectural rehabilitation
E. Theory, history and criticism of architecture, urbanism and landscape
F. Specialized periodical publications

A. ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN

All new architectural projects, of all typologies or uses, that have been built in the American continent in the period between November 2014 and September 2018, and that have not participated in previous editions of the BAQ, may participate. All projects that have incorporated new, traditional and recycled resources into their design and construction will be considered.

B. URBAN DESIGN AND LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE

Participate in urban and landscaping projects built or under construction (at least one of the execution stages that exceed 30% of the project must be completed), linked to the creation, improvement, rehabilitation and recycling of urban, natural spaces and heritage. The projects that have been executed in the American continent in the period between November 2014 and September 2018, and that have not participated in previous editions of the BAQ, will participate.

C. SOCIAL HABITAT AND DEVELOPMENT

The competition in this category is aimed at identifying and promoting the best architectural practices and projects, built in any country in the world, that demonstrate a positive and tangible impact in the improvement of the living conditions of low-income families and in their immediate environment. In this category, new or improved social housing projects may participate, as well as projects that consider the importance of:

  • Neighborhood improvement and public space.
  • The recovery of the natural or urban environment.
  • Participation and management strategies, both in design, execution and maintenance.
  • The cultural and aesthetic contributions that reinforce the identity of the communities.
  • Constructive safety and climatic comfort.

Projects that have been built in the period between November 2014 and September 2018, and that have not participated in previous editions of the BAQ, may participate.

D. ARCHITECTURAL REHABILITATION

Projects of architectural rehabilitation of buildings with patrimonial or non-patrimonial character, focused both on the revaluation of the architectural memory, as well as on the reuse and transformation of existing architectural structures, that have been executed in the American continent in the period between November, will be able to participate. of 2014 and September of 2018, and that have not participated in previous editions of the BAQ.

E. THEORY, HISTORY AND CRITICISM OF ARCHITECTURE, URBAN PLANNING AND LANDSCAPE

They may participate in published and printed works in the American continent and which must have an ISBN (International Standard Book Number) and a publisher based in the continent specialized in theory, history or criticism (monographs, memoirs, essays, texts for didactic or research use). ), whose content refers to the problems of architecture, urbanism and landscape. In addition, they have been published or printed in the period between November 2014 and September 2018, and they have not participated in previous editions of the BAQ.

F. SPECIALIZED PERIODIC PUBLICATIONS

Printed specialized periodical publications, whose content contributes to disseminate architecture, urbanism and landscape will be able to participate. The last three consecutive editions that have been published in the American continent and that necessarily have an ISSN (International Standard Serial Number) and an editorial with headquarters in the continent, published in the period between November 2014 and September 2018, will be presented. , and that they have not participated in previous editions of the BAQ.
